Last weekend on Cape Cod, it felt like Summer had finally arrived. The boys love the surf and we encourage them to spend as much time on the sand and in the water as possible, but just like their daddy, our fair skinned babes need serious sun protection.

Most sunscreens contain toxic chemicals, which is bad news for a family like mine who love swimming but also need to wear a lot of sunscreen.

Follain’s range of natural, safe and effective sun-care products is a godsend. We use Erbaviva baby sunscreen on Jules, but everyone else in the family loves it too. I have a hard time getting the boys to stand still long enough to rub sunscreen in so I love that Erbaviva goes on smooth and doesn’t leave the white residue that so many baby sunscreens do.

I just turned forty so protecting my skin is more important now than it’s ever been. I’m also hyper aware of the chemicals that are in skincare products. I don’t just need to worry about the boys’ skin. I now have to add a whole new routine to protect my own skin.

With three little boys, I don’t have the hours in the day to research what’s in the creams and lotions I’m using on them or me. That’s why I love Follain. They’ve research every last ingredient that goes into all of their products.

I had never thought about sun protection for my hair. As long as I can remember my hairdressers have told me how thick and healthy my hair was and I’ve never had to do anything to it my whole life. I have lost hair during each pregnancy and also from breastfeeding. My hairdresser told me recently that she could tell how old my boys were by looking at the layers in my hair. (Reduced to an analogy of an old tree!)

So now I’m learning about sun-care for hair. Follain’s hair care range includes PureServe Color Shield, which uses herbal infusions to lock in pigment and shine, and lock out the threats that oxidize color and attack hair vitality.

I’m trusting my summer to Follain. From Suntegrity‘s sunscreen, self tanner and SPF 30 lip color, to EiR’s Surf Mud line, to after-sun products like Farmaesthetics and Herbivore Botanicals after-sun body mists, I know my family is protected from the sun as well as toxic chemicals found in a lot of sun-care products.

I was looking for some information on skincare and came across your post: MR GOLDEN SUN

It’s really nice! I especially liked how you mentioned that most sunscreens contain toxic chemicals, which is bad news for a family like mine who love swimming but also need to wear a lot of sunscreen.

Actually I just put together a super high-quality infographic on the Benefits of Retinol for Eternal Youth.

As someone that writes about health and beauty, I thought you might get a kick out of it.

Let me know if you want to check it out.

That’s so funny your hairdresser said she could tell how old your kids are by your hair. Really? That’s crazy! Lol

A well known natural brand’s sunscreen was recently found to be ineffective and children were burnt. You have to make sure that the sunscreen works and isn’t just “natural”. If it works, that’s great but don’t just blindly buy natural products for your babies.

Thanks for commenting! I agree. I think you are talking about the Honest Company sunscreen? Follain doesn’t carry Honest products but in their defense, those cases were because people were misusing the product. Parents need to read the directions on every product they use on their children. The technology of a natural product is not necessarily the same as an unnatural one and it needs to be used differently. That being said, we used the Erbaviva sunscreen all weekend on all three boys and it definitely worked for us. 🙂

I’ve always been aware of the damage that might be done by chemicals in products we use – on our bodies and what we eat. I suffered for a long time with dry skin and itchy skin as a result. I think the chemicals in products had a lot to do with it. I now check every product for the chemicals that might be there to damage my skin. In Boston there are two Follain stores and I often pop in to see what I can find.
    Love the little sun suit.

I bet you are right. Glad you have found alternatives. The Boston stores are my locals too! 🙂
